1. What does the word Cavy mean? Cavy is the Latin term for Guinea Pig.  The full Latin term is Cavia Porcellus.

2. Why are cavies called Guinea Pigs? A long time ago the British sold them for one Guinea, which was a British coin.

3. Is a cavy like a Rabbit? Kind of. You see, some Guinea Pigs have pointy noses,like Crystal, my Guinea Pig, which looks like a little rodent, and some have blunt noses,like Himi, my other Guinea Pig, who looks like the cutest Rabbit!

4. What are the thirteen breeds? Well,I'll go in ABC order, Abbysinian, Abbysinian Satin, American, American Satin, Coronet,Peruvian, Peruvian Satin, Silkie, Silkie Satin, Teddy, Teddy Satin, Texel, and White Crested.

5. Do people eat Guinea Pigs? Yes. In Peru, the Incaseat the Guinea Pigs for food. Some local Peru restraunts still serve those poor Guinea Pigs for food! In fact, my mom met a man who actually had Guinea Pig in a restaurant. He said it tasted like chicken. Weird!

6. Can Guinea Pigs help you with getting rid of leftovers? Yes! They eat all your fruits and veggies and even cores and peels. Below is a list of the food they eat.

FOODS THEY EAT

Carrots, lettace, apple core, apple, parsley, orange peel, watermelon, watermelon peel, cantelope peels, banana, of course, pellets, and banana peel.

SHOW GUINEA PIGS

Did you know that Guinea Pigs are in show? Yes, they are. Guinea Pigs are judged by the texture of their fur, their body shape, and the quality of the Guinea Pig. To get a point in show you must tell the judge the breed and varity of your Guinea pig. To show a Guinea Pig, your Guinea Pig must be registered. The most common varietes in the show are dutch, red, white, black, gold, chocolate, silver, cream, beige, lilac, tortiseshell, and tortiseshell white.
