The following are some of the club projects offered in 4-H. Project meetings are led by dedicated volunteer 4H adult members and/or 4H teen leaders, and are generally held monthly, unless otherwise specified. A minimum of 10 hours of attendance is required for 4-H credit. There is no fee required, but project members may be asked to pay for the cost of materials. Project members are encouraged to enter their completed work(s) in the San Mateo County Fair, and to record their experiences in 4-H Record Books.

CavyCavies

Cavies, otherwise known as guinea pigs, are the stars of this project. Activities will include raising, feeding, grooming, breed characteristics, and care of these lovable creatures.

computer nerdComputer (Web Design)

Project members will use various webpage tools to create personalized 4-H youth webpages which will be incorporated into the club website. Learn all about the programming language HTML, the Internet, browsers, file transfer, web searching, image makers, text and graphics editors, and other webpage skills which you can use to create your own website!

Recommended for ages 11 and older. Typing ability helpful. Enrollment limited depending on computer availability.

GoatGoats

Project members get together to talk about goat diseases, body parts, care, housing and equipment, grooming, showmanship, feeding, weight maintenance, preparation for entry to the San Mateo County Fair, as well as an apprenticeship program.

Cake Decorating

Learn to make your cake look as delicious as it tastes! Project activities include gingerbread house decorating, decorating Christmas cookies, brainstorming cake designs, geometry and structural engineering, Blarney Cakes, Eggstra Special Springtime surprise, Styrofoam cake building, and making and submitting cake entries to the San Mateo County Fair.

Requirements: Cake decorating supplies, lots of imagination, a little talent and enthusiasm.

LambLambs

This project will include interesting discussions about lamb diseases, body parts, care, housing and equipment, grooming, showmanship, feeding, weight maintenance, preparation for entry to the San Mateo County Fair, as well as an apprenticeship program.

paintArts and CraftsCrayons

For all budding artists and creative types. Completed projects may be submitted for entry in the San Mateo County Fair.

roosterPoultry

Learn about our avian friends, including chickens, turkeys, and ducks. Poultry and waterfowl breeding and standards, raising, processing and showmanship will be discussed. Project members may enter their bird(s) in the Small Animal Exhibition of the San Mateo County Fair and participate as team members in the Avian Bowl competition.

sewingSewing

Sew your very own 4-H travel pillow, or create an gorgeous outfit! Project activities include sewing techniques by machine and by hand, using patterns, fabric selection, color coordination, ironing and fabric care. Completed projects may be entered in the 4-H Fashion Revue and in the San Mateo County Fair.

Requirements:Portable sewing machine and sewing supplies.

This project will include how to's on raising market steer, including diseases, body parts, care, housing and equipment, grooming, showmanship, feeding, weight maintenance, preparation for entry to the San Mateo County Fair, as well as an apprenticeship program.

4-H Record BookRecord Books

Records books are an important way for 4-H'ers to record their 4-H experiences and relay what they have learned and accomplished. This project will help members prepare their records books, so that they may be submitted for county judging in the 4-H scholarship and awards program.

Have loads of fun in the kitchen with your fellow chefs learning to prepare delicious and nutritious gourmet dishes.

This project will include how to's on raising dogs, including diseases, body parts, care, housing and equipment, grooming, showmanship, feeding, weight maintenance, and obedience.

Show off your green thumbs in this project, by growing and maintaining luscious plants and flowers of all kinds.

This project is all about automobile safety, maintenance, mechanics, and parts.
