Every year, there is an annual Rabbit Bowl competition held at the San Mateo County Fair. It consists of different teams answering trivia questions about rabbits. Teams are made of 2 to 4 members who collaborate together to answer as many questions as possible in the 3 minute time limit. Many of the questions are derived from information taken from the Standard of Perfection for Rabbits. There are two "divisions" within each category, the Junior and Senior divisions. Teams are placed in either of the divisions based on the ages of the team members. Senior teams have at least one team member who is 14 or older as of July 1st. Junior teams have members who are all under the age of 14.
The Rabbit Bowl is open to all 4H or FFA (Future Farmers of America) members from the local area (you don't even have to be in the rabbit project). The winners are the teams that scored the highest and a "High Point" award is given to the overall highest scoring team (either the winners of the Junior or Senior divisions).
Last year(2001), I was the captain of the Burlingame/San Mateo Senior Rabbit Bowl Team. The team also included Samantha H. and Nick H. That year, there was only one other team; a team from Cañada 4H. There were also 3 teams that competed in the Junior division; a team from Belmont 4H and 2 teams from Cañada 4H.
The winner of the Senior division was Burlingame/San Mateo and the winner of the Junior division was Belmont. The Belmont team won the High Point award by a couple questions. The winners are presented with 1 large plaque they get to keep until the next year and they get smaller individual plaques they can keep forever. The larger plaque has the names of all of the past winners engraved on it. The winning team gets to keep the plaque until the next year's competition, unless they win again.
